Advocacy
We all know how frustrating it can be when people ignore us. Unfortunately, having a neurodivergent condition can sometimes mean it's even harder to have your opinions and ideas taken seriously by others. This can be challenging to deal with, especially when you need to communicate with others. They don't always offer you all the opportunities and choices you would like or involve you fully in decisions.
Advocacy means someone supporting you to help you express your views and wishes and help you stand up for your rights. Someone who helps you in this way is called your advocate. The role of an advocate is to offer independent support to those who feel they are not being heard and to ensure they are taken seriously and that their rights are respected. It also assists people to access and understand appropriate information and services.

Advocacy is a fancy word for helping people to speak for themselves. Advocates don't speak on behalf of people. A neurodivergent condition can sometimes impact the way someone's brain works. It can make learning, understanding, or doing things harder for someone.
